Cruises From Florida
Saturday, August 27th, 2011

H! I was wondering if anyone knows of any cruises leaving from Florida that are in port overnight in Mexico -?
I have found tons of cruises that travel to, say, Cozumel or Cancun, but they are only in port from 9am to about 6pm…And I want to go out in Mexico! Any suggestions on whether such cruises exist or where they can be found? I was looking to go for spring break, which would be the week of March 24. Thank you for any feedback!
Or anywhere else in the Caribbean or Bahamas, for that matter? I’m looking to port overnight.
That’s a tough one and I haven’t found any. The nearest I found was HAL which was in aruba till 11 pm.
Just got back from The Cruise. 7 days to aruba and curasol.
You might try to find a cruise that starts or ends in a port you would want to stay in.

Great Cruises: Paradise In The Caribbean $12.75 On this episode of GREAT CRUISES we board the world’s first non-smoking cruise ship, one of the Fun Ships of Carnival Cruise Lines, the PARADISE, as she sets sail from Miami to the ports of Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, in the Western Caribbean. We’ll enjoy many of the side trips, including a visit to the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Later, we’ll visit a turtle farm, snorkel with giant stingrays and dive a hundred feet below the sea on a submarine in the Cayman Islands. And finally, we’ll visit Ocho Rios, Jamaica where we’ll tour lush botanical gardens and climb six hundred feet up spectacular Dunn’s River Falls. Our first port of call is Cozumel, an island off the eastern shores of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Here we board a high-speed catamaran to take us to the port of Playa Del Carmen back on the mainland. After a short bus ride we reach the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum. Our second port-of-call is Grand Cayman, a relatively small island renowned as one of the world’s largest financial centers, being home to over 580 banks and trust companies holding almost a trillion dollars in assets! A favorite tourist haunt is Hell’s Post Office, so named after the amazing limestone rock formations. You can pick up a tee shirt that, well, says it all! We jumped at the chance to visit Stingray City where each day dozens of gigantic stingrays, some as large as six feet in diameter, congregate to be fed pieces of squid by hand, from eager tourists. Our final port of call is Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Yah Mon! Christopher Columbus declared the Blue Mountains of Jamaica to be the fairest land eyes ever beheld… where the mountains touch the sky. We head up through the rain forests of Fern Gully, a 3-mile road built on an old riverbed that winds through a lush tropical canyon, home to over 2,000 different species of ferns, and a few local characters. A pleasant surprise as we toured Ocho Rios was the Taj Mahal duty-free plaza an architectural parody of India’s matchless tomb strategically placed opposite the exit from the pier.High on a hill overlooking the town is Shaw Park Botanical Gardens, a beautiful and relaxing experience, created in the nineteenth century as a private gentleman’s estate. Acres of lawns and terraces tumble down the hillside and are enhanced by an interesting variety of native and imported trees, decorative shrubs and roses. Dunn’s River Falls is Jamaica’s premier attraction, visited by almost a million persons annually. It is a place of unique beauty where the river dances down a giant limestone staircase to a white sand beach and the warm blue Caribbean sea. Climbing the falls with a guide is easier than it looks but there are steps with handrails and wooden observation decks for the non-athletic. In the river there are pools to swim in, caves behind falls, and mini-whirlpools. Source – TravelVideoStore.com |

Best of the Best: Florida’s Best Places to Stay $7.97 For readers who wont settle for second-best and who only want distinctive, rave hotels, look no further! Many Florida visitors are seeking an up-market travel experience. And Florida serves it up on a silver platter: lavish resorts, sumptuous spas, trend-setting dining and the world’s grandest yachts. About 100 top-shelf hotels and resorts will be featured.Unique to this series will be an exclusive Open Road ranking, with our own Open Road LuxScore ratings; based on our own formula for ratings (on a 1-10 scale). Hotel descriptions will also feature keywords that will be set in color to stand out from the rest of the text. The book will be similar to Open Road’s ‘Best Places to Stay’ chapter featured in each of our destination guides, and will go in-depth to include much more detail than the usual paragraph or two most guides give to hotel write-ups. Author and professional travel writer Janet Groene will explore the ins and outs of such luxurious hotels as the Mandarin Oriental Miami, the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, the Chesterfield Palm Beach, and Sanibel Harbor Resort & Spa. Select cruises and Florida-based charter yachts will be featured as well. Each entry will feature the following: Best Nearby Attractions: (local galleries, world class golf course, festival or cultural event); Best Room or Rooms (for view, unusual furnishings, anything else that makes the room so incredible); Best For (whom): (e.g. families, singles, honeymooners, adventure travelers); Best Dining (best dining room within the resort or best meals outside property if no restaurant on-site, signature dishes). Best Service Feature (this is key for people looking for luxury accommodations, andwill be one of the main things distinguishing our series from any other routine guidebook description) Best Little Extras (will include specific anecdotal details whenever possible). |

Early Bird: A Memoir of Premature Retirement By Rodney Rothman $9.99 Everyone says they would like to retire early, but Rodney Rothman actually did it — forty years early. Burnt out, he decides at the age of twenty-eight to get an early start on his golden years. He travels to Boca Raton, Florida, where he moves in with an elderly piano teacher at Century Village, a retirement community that is home to thousands of senior citizens.
Early Bird is an irreverent, hilarious, and ultimately warmhearted account of Rodney’s journey deep into the heart of retirement. Rodney struggles for acceptance from the senior citizens he shares a swimming pool with and battles with cranky octogenarians who want him off their turf. Before long he observes, “I don’t think Tuesdays with Morrie would have been quite so uplifting if that guy had to spend more than one day a week with Morrie.”
In the spirit of retirement, Rodney fashions a busy schedule of suntanning, shuffleboard, and gambling cruises. As the months pass, his neighbors seem to forget that he is fifty years younger than they are. He finds himself the potential romantic interest of an aging femme fatale. He joins a senior softball club and is disturbed to learn that he is the worst player on the team.
Early Bird is a funny, insightful, and moving look at what happens to us when we retire, viewed from a remarkably premature perspective. Any reader who plans on becoming an old person will enjoy joining Rodney on his strange journey, as he reconsiders his notions of romance, family, friendship, and ultimately, whether he’s ever going back to work. |
