What You Need to Know Before Booking a Trip to Enchanting Egypt
Few places in the world have captured the imagination of millions of travellers than Egypt has over the years. The land of ancient kings and queens known for their majestic monuments and architectural contributions to history, Egypt is certainly one of the top travel destinations not to be missed by anyone who wishes to travel to exotic locations throughout the world. Unlike other travel destinations, the wonders or Egypt are not concentrated on just a single area, instead, visitors can actually choose a plethora of locations and destinations that will truly make for memorable holidays Egypt style. For example, you can visit Giza and other sites where ancient pyramids are located or choose to go on a romantic Egypt Nile Cruise for an alternative experience. Here are a few things you need to know of you want to book a trip to enchanting Egypt.
Legal requirement
Apart from booking a hotel beforehand, the first thing that you need is a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after you book your holiday. There are basically two types of visas available: an entry visa and a tourist visa. Of the two, you are required to get the tourist visa, which is valid within three months from the date of issue; this type of visa is accepted if you wish to undertake an Egypt Nile cruise for a few days. Upon your arrival in Egypt, you can then procure a visa at any major points of entry or airports. To avoid unexpected hassles, however, it is advised that you obtain your visa from an Egyptian embassy in your country. While in the Egyptian Diplomatic and Consular Missions branch in your country, you can also obtain a list of accredited travel companies that can help arrange your itinerary.
Plan an itinerary
As with any other trip—be it local or abroad—an itinerary helps keep the trip organized. By being organized, visitors can actually maximize their holiday. There are many things that you can do in Egypt. First, as was mentioned, you can choose a luxurious Egypt Nile cruise and explore the Nile River aboard a luxury ship or floating hotel. Such an experience provides so many activities that you can experience in a land-based hotel. For history buffs, they can plan tours to visit famous landmarks that provide a glimpse into the lives of ancient kings and queens and the culture of one of the greatest civilizations that ever existed—some say this is the only way for visitors to have truly unique holidays Egypt style.
Pack essential things you will need
Depending on your itinerary, you definitely have to pack some essential items to help you avoid certain inconveniences while on vacation. If you plan to spend hours on walking tours of the Egyptian desert, you certainly have to pack items to help you combat the heat, such as a good hat, sun block, water holder, and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. On the other hand, if you are going on an Egypt Nile cruise, you may pack similar items as you would for a regular vacation.
Finally, do mind the local customs and traditions as you interact with locals. Egyptians can be quite conservative, so it is best to act with a little bit of reservation. Have a safe and happy trip!

The Black Nile $6.49 “A supremely entertaining work, and also an important one.” -David Grann, author of The Lost City of Z Upon hearing the news of tenuous peace in Sudan, foreign correspondent Dan Morrison bought a plank-board boat, summoned a friend who’d never left America, and set out from Uganda, paddling the Nile on a quest to reach Cairo-a trip that tyranny and war had made impossible for decades. With the propulsive force of a thriller, Morrison’s chronicle is a mash-up of travel narrative and reportage, packed with flights into the frightful and absurd. From the hardscrabble fishing villages on Lake Victoria to the floating nightclubs of Cairo, The Black Nile tracks the snarl of commonalities and conflicts that bleed across the Nile valley, bringing to life a complex region in profound transition. |

The River Nile $13.99 “She got a little basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the edge of the Nile River . . . Exodus 2: 3, NLT Seven years after the end of the Idi Amin regime, Uganda had once again plunged into civil war. The constant battles between factions made the country one of the most dangerous places on earth. Yet in the midst of this chaos, Sister Maria, a doctor from Guatemala, worked to care for those who were the most defenseless-the mothers and babies. As an orphan herself, she could relate to the plight of all those who had lost their parents, and tears filled her eyes when she thought of their future . . . Across the world in Kansas, a pretty brunette named Julie Benham begins writing a human-interest story about an orphanage in Wichita. The story has a personal connection for her, for she had been adopted from this very orphanage and hopes to uncover some information about her birth parents. But the strange proceedings she uncovers brings her more questions than answers, and her perfect world soon begins to unravel . . . The River Nile tells the exciting story of what happens when two worlds collide and people are forced to answer the question: When is it okay to deceive those around you if it means saving lives? KENNY BLAIR and his wife, Jodi, live on a farm near Lyndon, Kansas. They are the parents of five children, four of whom are adopted. They have been connected with the pro-life movement since the 1970s and spent time on a short-term missions trip to Africa. Kenny is an engineer, and Jodi is a certified nurse midwife.” |

Lumley,Joanna Nile – Joanna Lumley’s Nile $52.79 Joanna Lumley embarks on the trip of a lifetime; to follow the River Nile, the longest river in the world, from sea to source. Heading upstream, in the direction of the earliest explorers, Joanna travels by boat, train, ferry, car, plane, mule and camel along Africa’s ‘life line’. On a four thousand mile journey, passing through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda, Joanna revisits the romantic history of the Nile and talks with the people working and living on the river today. On a journey resonant with legend and myth, Joanna’s companions and adventures breathe new life into the story of an ancient river. She meets ferryboat captains, crocodile hunters, whirling dervishes and beauty queens and finds herself undertaking a wood smoke beauty treatment, running with Olympic hopefuls, getting up close to a baby rhino calf playing with its mother and hacking through the jungle to reach the newly discovered source of the great river. As she travels past pyramids and ancient temples, through deserts, jungle and war torn landscapes, Joanna’s charm, enthusiasm and graceful fortitude carries us along a fascinating and epic journey. |

Down The Nile: Alone In A Fisherman’s Skiff $11.99 Rosemary Mahoney was determined to take a solo trip down the Egyptian Nile in a small boat even though civil unrest and vexing local traditions conspired to create obstacles every step of the way. Starting off in the south she gained the unlikely sympathy and respect of a Muslim sailor who provided her with both a seven-foot skiff and a window into the culturally and materially impoverished lives of rural Egyptians. Egyptian women don’t row on the Nile and tourists aren’t allowed to for safety’s sake. Mahoney endures extreme heat during the day and a terror of crocodiles while alone in her boat at night. Whether she’s confronting deeply held beliefs about non-Muslim women finding connections to past chroniclers of the Nile or coming to the dramaticm realization that fear can engender unwarranted violence Rosemary Mahoney’s informed curiosity about the world her glorious prose and her wit never fail to captivate. |

Down the Nile: Alone in a Fisherman’s Skiff $4.99 When Rosemary Mahoney, in 1998, took a solo trip down the Nile in a seven-foot rowboat, she discovered modern Egypt for herself. As a rower, she faced crocodiles and testy river currents; as a female, she confronted deeply-held beliefs about foreign women while cautiously remaining open to genuine friendship; and, as a traveler, she experienced events that ranged from the humorous to the hair-raising – including an encounter that began as one of the most frightening of her life and ended as an edifying and chastening lesson in human nature and cultural misunderstanding. Whether she’s meeting Nubians and Egyptians, or finding connections to Westerners who traveled up the Nile in earlier times – Florence Nightingale and Gustave Flaubert among them -Mahoney’s informed curiosity about the world never ceases to captivate the reader. |

Of all the Government stations we had passed in our journey from Khartoum, Nasser was perhaps the most woe-begone in appearance. It was an old Egyptian outpost fort established there by an officer in the Khedive’s Government, a man of the name of Nasser. It was built in the old days of Egyptian rule before the Mahdi came on the scene, at a period when the slave trade was in its full vigour. The mud wall of the old fort still exists, though it is fast crumbling to decay, each rainy season washing away some portion of what remains. The Commandant’s house, and all the buildings for the Soudanese police who guard the fort, are built of mud and wattle. Outside theprecincts of the fort, there is quite a flourishing settlement, composed of the wives and families of the Soudanese military police who occupy the fort. There are about sixty men stationed there under the command of a white officer; and a very lonely post it must be, as there is very |
