River Nile Cruise
Author: admin

I am a US tourist going to Egypt. Whats good to buy? New to eat? Why does the Nile river run North?
I am going to Egypt with my husband and adult daughters. We have a trip and cruise up the nile planned. Our last day is a free day in Cairo and we would like to purchase local items to remind us of the country do you have suggestion. What local foods should we try. We are open and adventurous and willing to try most food items. What about clothing any suggested purchases. What items are known to be good bargains and are there any specific items that egypt is known for Other than the spynx and pyramids? I have wanted to visit all of my life and the time is here finally. I don’t think I can afford to come back a second time so I have to make the most of this. I do have adequate spending money I think. Any helpful info welcome. Thanks for your time.
The best advice I can give you is buy a really good guide book before you go and do your homework it really helps.
The river Nile runs down hill which happens to be north. All rivers seek out the lowest point until they reach sea level.
Shopping in Luxor maybe easier than Cairo, though the Khan el Khalili (medieval shopping area in Cairo) should be visited if you have time. Papyrus, leather goods and cotton obviously, e.g. sheets, towels, table clothes etc. are all good buys. You will find numerous market stalls outside every temple on your cruise. Where you can bargain and do bargain take it down to at least half price if not lower. There you can buy statuettes alabaster, and other souvenirs. Local food can be bought in many restaurants, try kofta; I like that but there are many other foods and most are delicious. There are a number of tourist restaurants in Luxor that sell Egyptian food and are run by both locals and English/ European management.
If you want to try something a little different take a local taxi out to the valley of the nobles and go and see a group of the tombs. The tickets you buy at the ticket office gives you admittance to 2 or 3 tombs. This valley is rarely on The Cruise itinery. but the paintings are amazing and well worth seeing, far better than the Valley of the Kings etc. Also if you have time take a taxi to the tourist bazaar at the back of Luxor temple in Luxor if you don’t get cross with the hassle (and it can be a pain,) its great fun.
As for clothes there will almost certainly be a gallabeya party on your cruise where you will all be expected to dress up in traditional Egyptian clothes its fun so you will almost certainly buy one anyway.
Take with you; a good stomach medicine such as imodium clinical name Loperamide. And wash your hands frequently. A very high factor sun cream it will be very hot.
Loose cotton clothes and a sun hat, your guide book. Always carry Small packets of tissues and wet wipes. Drink lots of bottles water. And have fun. Any thing else please e mail.

One thing is for sure, the family will never forget this Egyptian experience. Our Intrepid Family Adventures are designed specifically for the spirited family. We understand that travelling with kids sometimes requires a slightly different perspective. Keeping this in mind, we travel at a slower speed – recognising that showing your family around our exotic destinations can take time. By travelling at a relaxed pace, while still offering plenty of optional activities along the way, we’re providing your family with the ultimate travel experience together. We limit travel times so that you’re usually not on transport for more than seven hours or travelling too long after dark. We also try – where possible – to ensure you have at least two nights in each destination so you are not constantly having to unpack those bags. Accommodation is chosen carefully to ensure your family gets the best of both worlds, with some of the creature comforts of home as well as experiencing accommodation unique to the region you are travelling through. Wherever possible you will stay in hotels with small comforts to make your stay more enjoyable – such as restaurants nearby, or accommodation with a pool. On some trips you may even find your family being rocked to sleep on an overnight sleeper train or drifting off while camped out under a canopy of stars – and we reckon it’ll be these experiences the kids will love and remember the most. Best of all, we find trips with children are so suc |
